Friday was the 100th day of school! We celebrated 100 days of learning by brainstorming things we have mastered so far this year.
Reading nonfiction texts using the close reading strategy can be tough-but our kiddos have done a wonderful job diving into a text! They have practiced using context clues to figure out meanings for new vocabulary, determined the most important details, written the gist of the text, and drawn conclusions about why the author included certain details. As a follow up, we are working on responding to constructed response questions in a complete paragraph by restating the question, including text evidence that supports our answer, and writing a conclusion.
I hope your child is ready to learn because I am super excited to teach! I have been researching and planning up a storm and I am pumped up about what the second semester will bring us! We are going to hit the ground running with reading groups to ensure that all previously learned reading strategies are at the front of our minds. Among other things, we will be close reading nonfiction texts and using information gained from the passages to brilliantly answer constructed response questions :)
Please remember to have your child read each night! Let's work towards 30 minutes per night with a variety of texts. As always, the students are more than welcome to borrow books from me! |
